History


Our company started its success story in 1889 in the town of Rheda-Wiedenbrück in East-Westphalia region of Germany. Specialising in the manufacture of hinges and hinge systems, the company initially operated under the name H. Simons & Co.

With approximately 600 employees, SIMONSWERK now ranks amongst the leading suppliers of hinges and hinge systems in Germany. The company is currently active on more than 70 international markets and has independent subsidiaries, agencies or our own staff members in 35 countries.

2020 - today

The Colcom Group, which was acquired in 2019, was gradually integrated into the SIMONSWERK Group, so that the first joint trade fair appearances will take place.

2010 - 2020

In 2014, the company celebrates its 125th anniversary. This same year sees the opening of the Hinge Forum training centre and event venue. In 2017 SIMONSWERK has developed an aesthetic and functional solution for the holistic, flush-fitting installation of glass doors, TECTUS Glass. At the same time, SIMONSWERK becomes majority shareholder of Anselmi & C. S.r.l., a manufacturer of concealed hinge systems for residential doors. The Italian traditional family company was founded in 1973 by Bepi Anselmi – initially with a focus on hinges for high-quality furniture. In 2019, the Italian-based Colcom Group will be acquired.

2000-2010

The fully concealed TECTUS hinge system makes its début at an exhibition in 2002 and is successfully introduced to the market. Thanks to SIMONSWERK hinges, unrebated doors can be integrated perfectly into linear design and surface flush room structures for the first time.

1990-2000

VARIANT VX, the universal hinge system designed for heavy-duty doors, is introduced. SIMONSWERK undertakes extensive renovation and modernisation work at its site in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. In 1992, a production facility opens in Heiligenstadt in the German region of Thüringen. The SIKU 3D hinge system for PVCu entrance doors has its market launch in 1997. The sales and distribution companies SIMONSWERK POLSKA and SIMONSWERK UK Ltd are founded.

1980-1990

The VARIANT VN hinge system for the heavy-duty sector with 3D adjustable receivers is introduced in 1981. This is followed by the Multi 3D hinge six years later. A new high-bay warehouse is inaugurated in 1986.

1970-1980

A commitment to continuous modernisation ensures that SIMONSWERK remains commercially stable. The ever-increasing demands on contemporary hinge systems – in particular with regard to load capacity – result in a high and assured quality standard.

1960-1970

In 1962, SIMONSWERK commences production of steel tube frames for the domestic furniture industry. In 1963, SIMONSWERK starts to develop the first standardised range of hinges under the VARIANT product brand. This allows the alternating, variable use of sash parts and frame parts and rational hardware technology for industrial door and frame production.

1950-1960

As Germany recovers in the post-war years, demand for SIMONSWERK products increases continuously. The BAKA hinge system, which remains a genuine classic even today, first comes to the market in 1957/58.

1940-1950

After temporary suspension of operations, after the end of the war, production resumes initially with tobacco cutting machines. Monetary reform in 1948 very quickly leads to the regular production of door hinges getting back to normal.

1930-1940

SIMONSWERK commences production of suspension products in 1932. Various product segments help the business to grow following the decline caused by the Great Depression.

1920-1930

After the First World War, SIMONSWERK expands it range of products to include rolled hinges and button hinges in particular. A company pension scheme is introduced in 1929.

1910-1920

Hugo Simons dies in 1909, bequeathing the company to his sons Paul Simons and Rudolf Simons. Extensive modernisation of the factory starts in 1910.

1900-1910

The company adds international customers to its existing base of German customers, supplying goods to countries including the Balkans, Greece, Turkey, Egypt and North America.

1889-1900

SIMONSWERK is founded in Rheda under the name H. Simons & Co. Its portfolio of products includes hinge hooks, butt hinges and inlet angles. By 1895, it employs 250 people.
