Building for the Future:
Sustainability Starts with the Details

As resources become more scarce, energy prices rise and ecological challenges mount, the way we plan, design and use buildings is coming increasingly under scrutiny. It is not only the large-scale measures such as insulation, energy-efficient façades and sustainable building material that come into play here, but also all the little details, like door hinges. These are in constant daily use and have a key role in determining whether a building remains functional and sustainable over the long term.

Thinking ahead today!

As a company, we are fully aware of this huge responsibility. That is why our sustainability strategy has been conceived to meet today’s needs without restricting the scope for future generations. A central priority is product durability: Each of our door hinges is manufactured with great precision and care so it withstands daily use over the long term and maintains its functionality for many years.

The deliberate use of robust materials such as stainless steel also contributes to the lasting durability of our products. These high quality standards are evidenced, among other things, by the CE marking, which is recognised throughout Europe.

Durability for a better environmental footprint

Durable products have a positive effect on the environment: They reduce the need for new purchases and help conserve valuable resources. They also lower the amount of energy that would otherwise be required to manufacture and transport replacement products.

Every durable component contributes not only to a building’s functionality and cost efficiency, but also delivers a measurable benefit to sustainability. With our Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), we also provide full transparency on the environmental footprint of our hinge systems — throughout their entire life cycle.

Refurbishments instead of new constructions

Refurbishments are even more sustainable than new constructions. This is why, with VARIANT VN we offer a wide range of coordinated hinge solutions that allow existing doors to be updated easily and efficiently in line with current design and safety standards. VARIANT Retrofit, for example, is particularly well suited for installing a new door leaf on existing steel frames — with minimal effort.

When doors are replaced as part of a refurbishment, other hinge systems from our portfolio can also be used, such as the concealed TECTUS hinge system or the proven BAKA hinge system for timber entrance doors. This way, existing buildings can be upgraded efficiently, resources can be preserved and sustainability is evident right down to the little details.
