SIMONSWERK acquires interest in Italian hinge manufacturer

Press Release - Rheda-Wiedenbrück, 15.05.20017
SIMONSWERK, a leading supplier of high quality hinges and hinge systems for doors, will become a majority shareholder in ANSELMI & C.S.r.l., a manufacturer of concealed door hinges and door fittings. The family business with its registered office in Roncade near Venice in Italy has approximately 40 employees and generated a turnover of approx. EUR 11 million in 2016. The parties agreed not to disclose the value of the transaction. The transaction is still subject to the usual approval by the relevant authorities and is to be completed by the end of May of this year.

With the product series TECTUS, SIMONSWERK has for many years successfully marketed concealed door hinges for use on high quality interior and exterior doors for residential and public buildings with load capacities up to 300 kg. ANSELMI & C.S.r.l. produces and distributes a.o. concealed hinges for light doors up to 60 kg under the product name ISTAR. This optimum supplement to the product areas leads to excellent growth opportunities.

“For SIMONSWERK the acquisition of ANSELMI is another consistent strategic step”, according to Michael Meier, Managing Director of SIMONSWERK. “With products by ANSELMI we extend our range of concealed hinges for standard doors. We are hereby opening up additional access to the international market for simple, lighter doors. SIMONSWERK will in future be better able to serve this market segment. In this way we strengthen our market position.”

Over the past few years SIMONSWERK has already significantly internationalised its business. The company is active in 70 countries and the international share in total turnover was 48 per cent in the financial year 2016. The acquisition of a stake in ANSELMI is a further milestone in the consistent expansion of its international business. The acquisition does not only widen the international positioning of SIMONSWERK, but also provides for both companies to develop existing and new markets more effectively.

“As a member of the renowned SIMONSWERK Group, ANSELMI is best equipped to enter into the next phase of our successful development”, said Giulio Anselmi who, together with his sister Elena Anselmi, will continue to manage the operations of the company, established in 1973 by his father Bepi Anselmi, at the Roncade location. The business management there will be reinforced by Michael Meier. “The ANSELMI product range will significantly expand its market presence by the diversified international sales organisation of SIMONSWERK. There are synergy potentials not only in sales, but also in development and production. Customers will profit by our expanded and improved range of products. With SIMONSWERK, ANSELMI is therefore in the very best of hands.”

In order to use any arising opportunities for growth, SIMONSWERK will continue to invest in ANSELMI, just as in all other locations of the group. Irrespective of the aspired synergies no reduction in personnel is planned, all production facilities will continue to be maintained. Managing Director Michael Meier said: “Within the history of a company tradition now dating back 128 years, SIMONSWERK is a responsible family company considering itself to be committed in a special way to its employees and as an employer at its various locations. In future, this view of our responsibility as a company will also apply to the new colleagues from ANSELMI whom we welcome most cordially to SIMONSWERK.”
